Spicules: microneedles you apply with your fingers
Spicules are microscopic silica needles derived from freshwater sponges. Suspended in a cream or serum, they create temporary micro-channels in the surface of the skin so the actives alongside them travel further than they otherwise would. The faint tingling you feel is the delivery system doing its job.
What to know before using them
Start slowly. Two nights a week is enough at first. Spicule formulas are not for daily use until your skin has clearly adapted.
Apply gently. Press, do not rub. Rubbing drags the needles across the surface and causes irritation rather than delivery.
Pair carefully. Spicules amplify whatever is in the formula. Combined with PDRN or peptides that is exactly what you want; combined with strong acids it is too much.
Skip when compromised. Do not use spicules on broken, sunburnt or actively irritated skin. Rebuild the barrier first.
