Breakout-prone skin, the Korean approach

Western acne routines tend to attack: strip the oil, dry the blemish, accept the irritation. Korean formulas take the opposite view — congestion is usually a barrier problem as much as a bacterial one, and skin that has been stripped produces more oil, not less. The products here clear without leaving skin tight.

Building the routine

Cleanse without stripping. A low-pH gel or foam. If your skin feels tight afterwards, the cleanser is too harsh — that tightness is what triggers the next round of oil.

Clear the pore. A BHA toner or pad two to three times a week. BHA is oil-soluble, so it is the only exfoliant that reaches inside the pore.

Calm the inflammation. Tea tree or heartleaf for active blemishes, centella for the redness around them.

Keep hydrating. Skip moisturizer and skin overcompensates. A light hyaluronic acid layer under an oil-free cream is the balance to aim for.

Then the marks. Once breakouts settle, niacinamide and tone-correcting actives handle what is left behind.
